Of License Plates And Easter Eggs In Psiarch:Rising

I've been receiving emails and (twitter) DMs from readers of Psiarch: Rising (no reviews posted yet, but oh well...*).

While all of these (so far 😅) expressed their liking/appreciation/approval for the book, some of them asked me why I would "focus needlessly on some details" here and there - and the only example offered about in support of this mild criticism concerned the seeming 'gratuitous' mention of the license plate on the car belonging to a 'certain villainess' (and one of the main antagonists) in the last scene of the last chapter of the book (Chapter 30).

In context, the passage in question (emphasized) reads as such:

With another smug grin, the pint-sized woman turned to see the vigilant Jasper waiting next to her black bullet-proof sedan. As usual, the hulking man was dressed in the traditional onyx-hued chauffeur uniform, complete with gloves and classic driver hat. Standing alert like a sentinel with a semi-automatic combat rifle at the ready, he remained watchful of the surroundings through the headband-attached tactical visor he donned.

Strutting toward the vehicle, she smirked at the sight of its familiar—and personalized—‘7PW 7CH’ Massachusetts license plate.

“All’s clear, Mum,” the chauffeur said as he opened the rear passenger door.

7PW 7CH... Anyone remembers or knows about leet ('1ee7') speak? So, the license plate in fact means 'TPW TCH' or 'TP WTCH' - 'telepath witch'. 😉

And this is why I focused on this apparently innocuous little detail: it's a final clue to the identity of you-know-who (I don't want to spoil the name for anyone who hasn't read the yarn yet). Therefore, case closed. 😎👍

However, this brings me to mention another feature about Psiarch: Rising - it has numerous 'Easter eggs' in it, in reference/homage to scifi/fantasy books, series, movies (including a few authors and actors), or rock/metal songs/groups, or even anime. Some of these may be obscured ones, while others should be blatantly obvious (or so I like to think 😅). The large proportion of these Easter eggs are drawn from the general mainstream and/or geek culture, with a rare few being specific to Canadian culture stuff.

It's OK if you didn't catch on to any of these... yet. And although some of them constitute actual hints/clues to the true ID of characters, missing out on them in no way diminishes or affects the reading, let alone understanding, of the book. It's just stuff I threw in there for you readers, with the hope of giving you little knowing smiles whenever you'd find any of these.

So, now that you know, I hope you'll have fun hunting for them Easter eggs in this Book 1 of The Psiarch Chronicles!

And in case you haven't already, you can grab a copy of Psiarch: Rising from any of the outlets listed here.

Keep on rockin', eh? 😎👍

* Some have come in since writing this post! 😀
